How Many Cards Fit in a Pokemon Binder?
"How many cards fit in this binder?" is one of the first questions collectors ask — and the answer depends on the pocket size, the number of pages, and whether you fill both sides of each sheet. Here is the simple math.
Cards per page
Each binder sheet has pockets on both the front and the back. Per sheet (front + back), the common layouts hold:
- 4-pocket (2x2): 8 cards per sheet (4 front, 4 back)
- 9-pocket (3x3): 18 cards per sheet (9 front, 9 back)
- 12-pocket (3x4): 24 cards per sheet (12 front, 12 back)
- 16-pocket (4x4): 32 cards per sheet (16 front, 16 back)
Single-sided vs. double-sided
Many collectors only slot cards on one side of each sheet so that no two cards sit back to back (which can look cluttered and, over time, press against each other). This halves capacity but improves presentation.
- Double-sided maximizes capacity — best for bulk and large master sets.
- Single-sided looks cleaner and is gentler on cards — best for showcase and premium binders.
Whole-binder capacity
Multiply cards-per-sheet by the number of sheets. For a common 9-pocket binder:
- 20 sheets: 360 cards double-sided (180 single-sided)
- 30 sheets: 540 cards double-sided (270 single-sided)
- 40 sheets: 720 cards double-sided (360 single-sided)
Binders are often marketed by total pocket count (for example, "360-pocket"), which assumes double-sided use.
How many pages do you need for a full set?
To store a full set, divide the number of cards by pockets per page:
- A 9-pocket page holds 9 cards, so a 200-card set needs about 23 pages single-sided, or ~12 sheets double-sided.
- Add reverse holos for a master set and the count roughly doubles.
The easiest way to size your binder
Rather than estimate, plan the layout digitally and let the pages fill automatically. bindermap is a free Pokemon TCG binder planner where you choose a layout (1x1, 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4), slot or auto-fill your cards, and instantly see how many pages your collection needs.
